FAQs

What happens at my first visit?

On your first appointment, we will go over your medical history, and we will take a series of  X-rays for a full mouth, then Dr. Garcia-Lepore will do an Oral Cancer Screening, an evaluation of your TMJ joint and a Comprehensive Oral Evaluation. A Dental cleaning will be done consisting of an ultrasonic scaling, hand scaling and polishing of your teeth. Dr. Violeta Garcia-Lepore will then create a treatment plan for you. In many instances, there are different plan options available and these will be discussed with you. Diet will also be addressed. Our practice is geared towards prevention. We will answer any questions you may have about your oral health or treatment plans.

What forms do I need to bring to my first appointment?

We have made our new patient forms available for your convenience for printing (Medical History and Patient registration).
We recommend completing these forms at home.

Please remember to bring your completed forms and your insurance card with you for your first appointment. If you have any problems getting these files to print properly, please call our office and we will gladly send or fax them to you.

What types of Insurance do you take?

We welcome all insurances and will gladly submit your claims electronically for faster reimbursement. We participate with Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Delta Premier, Guardian, Cigna Radius, Unicare and Child Health Plus. We do not accept Medicaid.

Do you offer any payment plans?

Yes. We offer 0% financing through Care Credit. Depending on the treatment plan amount we offer 3, 6, or 12 months payment plans.

What are sealants and does my child need them?

Sealants should be used as part of a child's total preventive dental care. Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings which are applied to the chewing surfaces of the molars (back teeth) to prevent decay. Most tooth decay in children and teens occurs on these surfaces.

Applying sealants does not require drilling or removal of tooth structure.  It takes about one minute for the sealant to form a protective shield and can last for as long as 5 to 10 years. Sealants should be checked regularly, and reapplied if they are no longer in place.

I'm grinding my teeth at night what should I do?

Grinding your teeth can be very damaging to the teeth and also difficult to stop. If vigorous grinding occurs at night, teeth can be worn down to the gum line. If you are grinding, a night guard will be prescribed to prevent ultimate damage to the teeth.

The night guard will eliminate muscle soreness and headaches due to TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder). Night guards are custom made to fit your mouth comfortably. Night guards made from a store tend to be bulky and lack retention, and therefore, people don't wear them.

Does Bleaching Work?

Bleaching is a great way to lighten up your smile. Before, you can bleach your teeth; they need to be checked to make sure teeth are healthy along with your gums. we are excited to offer the ZOOM in office whitening system. We can lighten your teeth 6-8 shades lighter in about 1 hour. We also offer custom made bleaching trays that must be used for 2-3 weeks at least 4 hours a day. We recommend that you sleep with them, because they are custom made there is minimal bleaching material expelled from the trays.

You will need to re-bleach to maintain your shade maybe one or twice a year. Maintenance costs are minimal since you own your bleaching trays. You will now be able to bleach before that special occasion or before a trip.
